Is There an Unbeatable Tactic in OSM? The Truth

Tactics Guide · 2026-10-05 · 1 min

Searches for an 'OSM unbeatable tactic' or 'the strongest OSM tactic' usually look for one fixed formation and slider combination that never loses. As someone who has played this game since 2009, here is the truth: no such tactic exists.

Why There Cannot Be a Magic Tactic

OSM's match engine works by comparing your formation and sliders with your opponent's formation, sliders and squad strength. So a combination that 'always wins' is mathematically impossible: if the opponent is different, the right answer is different too.

Don't Believe Anyone Who Claims It

Don't trust combinations shared as an 'unbeatable tactic' in DMs or online as a 'tactic that never loses'. They are usually tactics that work in one specific scenario (for example at home when you are much stronger) but not in every situation.

The Real Answer: Adapting to the Opponent

Instead of an unbeatable tactic, what works is a tested counter tactic for each opponent. The Counter Engine does exactly that: pick the opponent's formation, the venue and the squad-strength gap, and it gives you the right Pressure/Style/Tempo values for that specific scenario.

The Closest Exception

At home, with a real strength advantage, against an opponent playing a shape that sits back (such as 5-2-3 Counter), our 4-3-3 A/B Wing Play setup is the one we trust most. Even that is not universal: it belongs to one specific scenario and carries no guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an unbeatable tactic in OSM?
No, no such tactic exists. The match engine compares your formation and sliders with your opponent's, so a combination that always wins is mathematically impossible.
Should I trust 'unbeatable' tactics shared online?
No. They are usually combinations that work in one specific scenario, such as at home when you are much stronger, but not in every situation.
If there's no unbeatable tactic, what should I do?
Use a counter tactic specific to each opponent. Put the opponent's formation, the venue and the squad-strength gap into the Counter Engine and it gives the answer for that scenario.
